Week of May 21st - 24th, 2024
This week we:
- Read the book "Spaghetti and Meatballs for All" in Math to practice working with area and perimeter
- Continued to read chapters from the "City of Ember" as we represented important events from the novel using pictures and words
- Planned our debate with our groups for our chosen Caldecott picture books using the Caldecott criteria and the notes we made while reading each of the books
- Finished learning about the prefix "ex" and completed a check-in about this morpheme
- Read the book "The Red Sash" and "The Giving Tree" to learn the 12 values of the Metis people
- Created our names on grid paper before finding the area and perimeter of each letter as well as comparing the different calculations with our classmates
- Completed an Art Critique about about a chosen piece of Metis Dot Art by Leah Dorian from the picture book we read in Social, "The Giving Tree"
- Worked together with the other Grade 5 class to complete an Area and Perimeter task during Field Study Friday where students used different informal units of measurement to calculate the area and perimeter of different rectangles outside
- Wednesday, May 29th – SPIRIT DAY: Career Day – What do you want to be when you grow up? Wear or bring something that reflects what you would choose as a career if you were old enough to work.
