Weeks of June 10th - 14th/June 17th - 21st, 2024

 Last week we: 

  • Finished using square metres to find the area of large spaces (such as our classroom and Mrs. Docherty's office!)
  • Learned about how large a square kilometre is an used maps to calculate how big it really is
  • Continued to read "The City of Ember" and decode the rest of the message Lina received
  • Learned how to write a business letter as we created a model as a class prior to writing our own independently about which picture book we think should win the Caldecott Award
  • Completed Literacy Stations where we had the chance to catch up on work as well as complete our Word Work activities in our groups
  • Used the suffix "ian" to learn more about this morpheme and words that use it
  • Finished our paragraphs about daily life in New France based on the research we completed
  • Made insulated play-dough to use in our circuits for our Electricity unit in Science
  • Tie-dyed our white shirts for the Grade 5 Farewell







This past week we: 
  • Used our conductive and insulated playdough to make creations that turn on LED bulbs
  • Went on our field trip to the Telus Spark Science Centre where we took part in a workshop for Classroom Chemistry
  • Had our Grade 5 Farewell where we shared the songs we've been working on in Music Class and Choir
  • Used chalk and worked as a team to solve long division equations outside for Field Study Friday 
  • Finished writing our Caldecott Business Letter after learning how to create our introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion 
  • Learned how to multiply two and three-digit numbers by two digit numbers as well as divide three-digit by 1-digit numbers using standard algorithms
  • Completed a Kahoot about Electricity to discuss what we knew about electricity
  • Watched the new NLS Truth and Reconciliation video as part of Indigenous Peoples Day

  • June 27 – Early Dismissal at 1:05 for students in Grades 1-5. (Last day of classes before Summer Break) 

FREEZIES FOR PLAY DAY THIS THURSDAY (or on Wednesday for Kindergarten since they don’t have school on Thursday) 

On Play Day, we will be providing a Mr. Freeze Freezie to students.  If you do NOT want your child to have a Freezie, please email your child’s homeroom teacher BEFORE the day itself and send a snack for them to have instead.  If your child is allowed to eat a Freezie, no action is required on your part. 

Mr. Freeze Freezie ingredients include: 

Water, glucose-fructose/sugar, citric acid, simulated flavours, sodium carboxymenthyl cellulose (stabilizer), sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness), stevia extract, colour
