Week of April 2nd - 5th, 2024
This week we:
- Worked together as a class to solve different SolveMe challenges as a Math warm-up each day
- Completed some pre-assessments for Algebra to see how much we remembered from Grade 4
- Learned about the Caldecott Award and read a previous winner, "The Polar Express"
- Started to learn about our new focus suffix, "-ment" and wrote an advertisement about an amusement park using different "-ment" words we had brainstormed and learned
- Finished our Social posters comparing our researched region with the region Alberta is located in "The Interior Plains" by using all the research we have collected throughout the unit about topics such as Climate, Landforms, and Natural Resources
- Solved different fun algebra puzzles at varying levels of difficulty based on what challenge we wanted to try
- Took part in a "Book Tasting" to "sample" and rate the different 2023 potential Caldecott award contenders before selecting our favourites to read
- Continued to work on different literacy stations such as "Word Work" where we play games and focus on creating words that include our personal focused spelling patterns
- Used toothpicks to create different patterns and continued different patterns after discovering the pattern rule
- Completed a scavenger hunt on Minecraft for the Level Up Calgary Challenge to learn about the different important landmarks and people in the city
- Wrote our monthly letter to Miss Gadbois where we had the chance to write about how March went and what we're looking forward to in April
- Worked together to continue building snow igloos the Grade 2s had started for Field Study Friday
