On September 29th, students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt to recognize Orange Shirt Day and National Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for everyone to come together in the spirit of reconciliation to show their support of a safe, respectful and caring school community. Orange Shirt day began in 2013 when residential school survivor, Phyllis Webstad, shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school. September 30 is a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation meant to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. The intention of this day is to recognize and honour residential school survivors, their families and communities. It also ensures that public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. This is a non-operation day for the CBE. Our students will be engaging in learning on September 29 to honour this important day. On the evening of September 29, we invite our families to come by the school and follow our knowledge walk between 4PM-6PM. We will also have a garden of hearts display which demonstrate each member of our schools community commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and have been generated based on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
